Bachelor degree (B.Sc.)

Bachelor degree (B.Sc.)

The most significant areas of the scientific and technological development include life sciences, i.e. medical and biological sciences, with particular emphasis on health, nutrition, environment, therapy, patient monitoring and biotechnologies.

All these topics require a multidisciplinary approach with a strict relation to the cutting-edge technologies adopted in research and in the business and hospital contexts. The Biomedical Engineering adopts methods and technologies of the engineering fields to describe, understand and solve problems of medical and biological interest cooperating also with clinicians and biologists.

The Biomedical Engineering study programme is organised on three levels:

  • Laurea in Ingegneria Biomedica, equivalent to the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (B.Sc.), a three years program;
  • Laurea Magistrale (LM) in Biomedical Engineering, equivalent to the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (M.Sc.), a two-year graduate program.
  • the Ph.D. programme, a three year program for students graduated with a M.Sc. degree

The Laurea in Biomedical Engineering is the first-level degree and it’s a three year program. It provides sound engineering basics  and an overview of key applications in the biomedical field. Students, who do not intend to enrol to a Master Program, can opt for an internship within one of the many companies in biomedical areas or in an hospital. The objective is to gain specific professional skills in view of the transition to the job market. For further information about stage and internship, please visit the following link.

Courses of the Bachelor degree are delivered exclusively in Italian language.

Since the a.y. 2022-2023 the Bachelor Program in Bioengineering was revised (it is available at the following link). The students who were enrolled in the previous academic years will follow the preceding Bachelor Program.

The Laurea degree in Biomedical Engineering (B.Sc.) allows admission to the Laurea Magistrale in Biomedical Engineering, equivalent to the Master of Science. The rules for the M.Sc. admission can be found at the following link and to the dedicate page of this website.

The students who graduate in Biomedical Engineering can also decide to pursue other M.Sc. programs (at Politecnico or other Universities) or other Masters.

Project course

The project courses are the last step for the graduation, the students are guided to prepare and discuss a project in a graduation committee. Please visit the italian version of this page to find the rules and the deadlines to apply for this course.

Academic calendar

Foreign language: starting from the academic year 2006/2007, Politecnico di Milano adopts English as the EU language that students must know in addition to Italian. This implies that students must demonstrate their acquaintance with English language for accessing the Laurea Magistrale degree
